When is the best time for rhinoplasty?

People seek rhinoplasty either because they want their nose to look better or because they want to breathe better and sometimes both. There is no specific age that’s best for rhinoplasty. A lot of patients get it when they are young because it’s something they’ve wanted it through their childhood years and we tend to wait until kids are 15 to 17 years of age before we allow them to undergo rhinoplasty, but we can perform it at almost any age.

What is unique about a rhinoplasty procedure?

Often you will hear people say that rhinoplasty is the most complicated procedure in plastic surgery and that view is there because of the three-dimensional anatomy the subtly of the detail, the fact that we are also treating a functional organ that when you have to breathe afterward, makes it complicated. The good news is we have techniques now, the contemporary approach to rhinoplasty, which I would refer to as a structured approach. Means that much of the risk has been drilled down. We have a much more predictable procedure now. We can consistently achieve excellent results because we have eliminated all of the concern essentially.

How will I know if my new nose will fit my face?

It’s essential after rhinoplasty that the nose fits the person’s face. It has to blend harmoniously with the other facial features. We put a lot of attention to making sure that this is the case. One of the ways we do that is to use computer imaging. We have both two dimensional and three-dimensional computer imaging systems, and we can perform surgery almost in advance of the actual procedure. This method is just one of several ways in which we put attention into making sure that the proportions of the nose after surgery match the face.

Rhinoplasty Before and After

How long is the recovery time?

Most of our patients are quite surprised that after rhinoplasty, they don’t have much pain. For the majority of cases, the recovery period is not particularly difficult. Our patients take one week off from work or school. After that, they are fine to resume all social activities. Other people won’t notice that surgery was performed after about a week or so. Most patients don’t have visible bruising nowadays with modern techniques that we use, and that is beneficial for our patients. Our patients are aware that rhinoplasty a long time to heal. What that means is that there is a little bit of swelling that persists. It does take a year to heal. In other procedures, aside of rhinoplasty, the fine detail that comes through over a year or so, that last little bit of swelling goes away, may not be that important but with rhinoplasty, these subtle details make the difference between the sort of a pretty good result and an excellent result.

What is recovery after eyelid surgery?

The recovery from eyelid surgery, either upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery, is generally a very easy recovery. The one problem with it is that most patients will get bruising around the eyes. So from a cosmetic standpoint, they will have to be aware that people who see them, their friends, their family, etc., will see some bruising.

What is Liposuction Surgery?

Liposuction surgery removes excess deposits of fat to sculpt an improved shape to a patient’s body. While liposuction is best known as a fat removal procedure, it is also one of the best procedures to help a patient refine his or her shape. In fact, cosmetic surgeons often use liposuction to refine the results of other procedures, as no other technique allows for such detailed improvements in body contour.
